Handsome depiction of the Meiji Emperor and Empress leaving the Imperial Palace for a military review at Aoyama. They ride in a royal carriage topped with a phoenix and bearing the Meiji chrysanthemum crest on the door. A driver sits on a bench draped with a red cloth trimmed with fringe, holding the reins as the horses walk along, a few grooms leading the animals. Soldiers on horseback follow behind carrying fluttering pennants in a long procession that curves back around onto Nijubashi Bridge. Above the stone walls of the palace complex, the rooftops of various buildings can be seen.

A handsome design, attractively coloured with fine bokashi shading in the water and sky.
