Handsome portrait of a woman warrior at Kagoshima during the Satsuma Rebellion. She stands beside her horse, a rein in one hand and her naginata in the other, a sword at her side. She wears a white kimono tucked into patterned pants over a suit of armour, a white sash tied around her forehead. In the distance at upper left, flames and smoke rise behind the tower of a castle in dark silhouette, drifting across the night sky. An olive-green border frames the image. Nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono.
