Fantastic triptych depicting the women warriors who fought against government troops at Kagoshima during the Satsuma Rebellion. Their kimono sleeves tied back with narrow sashes, the women are armed with swords and naginata. In the centre, a woman ties a white sash around her arm, dressed in a red shirt with gold buttons and hakama pants, an outfit traditionally worn by men. At left, a seated warrior holds a baby to her chest, the child wrapped inside her plaid kimono. An incredible image showing these wives and daughters of samurai who joined the rebellion against the Meiji government. A handsome group portrait with excellent detail and expressive figures.
